Chapter 5

Terri awoke two hours later, she and Kurt holding each other tightly as if while asleep the other would disappear. Darkness engulfed the room and it had grown cold once the fire died out. She detached herself from Kurt's grip, got up and turned on a light in the kitchen. It bathed the room in a soft glow. She turned up the heat on the thermostat, grabbed a can of Diet Pepsi and noticed Missy following her around.

"Wanna go out, girl?" She asked her. Missy did a little dance in front of the sliding glass door that led to the backyard. Terri opened it and let Missy out to do her business then she headed for the bathroom and did a little business herself. When she came back into the living room Kurt was sitting up against the back of the couch. He smiled when he saw her. She sat down on the floor Indian-style across from him and opened her drink. "Well, what of us now Kurt?" She asked. He shrugged.

"I just know that I missed you so very much. I have to be honest when I say I didn't think I would." He looked down and then back up to find Terri was staring at him. She smiled slowly. "I, I was scared. Foul means so much to me. You can't know how hard I've worked to make it where we are! And to see Brent -- well, it appeared to me that he was pissing it all away. But Foul isn't Brent's. Or at least it wasn't. I know it is now, but he came on board after I'd already started it. Only Geoff knows, really." Terri listened intently, sipping her soda, biting her lip. "When Brent told me Andrea was pregnant and he intended to stay with her ..." He saw her mouth open and he held his hand up to her before she could speak. "Which is the RIGHT thing to do!" She closed her mouth and smiled. He smiled back at her. "I just saw the whole thing fall apart. I saw myself having to get a full-time job and playing guitar for fun on the weekends." He sighed and his shoulders slumped. Terri watched him, in her heart knowing why he did what he did but feeling jaded about it anyway. "And so I went home," He continued. "And I couldn't stop thinking about you. I called and called and you never answered and didn't return my calls." She shrugged.

"Well, I was busy." She said cooly.

"I just had to see you." He looked at her and their eyes locked. She set down the Pepsi can and crawled over to him. She straddled him and sat down on his legs. He pulled her close and they kissed. He held the back of her head with his hands and held her eyes with his. "I couldn't stay away. You are so beautiful." He whispered and then kissed her again. "And I missed everything about you. Even the way you stand up to me when I'm being a shit." She giggled and pressed her forehead to his.

"And you can be quite the shit Kurt." She said. He pinched her sides and she wiggled around on his lap. "You're about as hard-headed as a man can be." He tickled her until she fell sideways on the floor and then he lay on top of her.

"You haven't even seen how hard-headed I can be!" He raised his eyebrows at her. "And speaking of hard ..." He motioned downward. She reached down and felt his excitement.

"Oooohooo! Not again!" He grinned and nodded.

"Ohhh yes ..." He said as he rolled back on top of her, kissing her. They made love again and afterward decided they were hungry. They dressed and went out to eat. There were very few places open but they found a quaint little restaurant in Naperville. They ate slowly, talking and laughing, and after dinner found the Omnimax theatre open and watched a movie. When they got back to Terri's, Kurt grabbed his bag.

"I suppose I should call Brent and see if I can flop in his guest room." Terri shook her head and took the bag from him.

"No. Don't do that. You can stay here." He took the bag back from her.

"I wouldn't think of imposing on you." She smiled at him and her eyes twinkled. She yanked the duffel bag from his hand again.

"I insist!" He made to grab the bag and she pulled it away quickly. He caught nothing. She backed away and when he went to go for it again she tore off into the other room beginning the chase. He caught her near the bed where she had no where to escape. She stood there clutching his bag, breathing heavily, and grinning.

"Well, now what're you going to do Terri? I think you're trapped." Her eyes darted to the bed and then she leaped up on it and was going to run across it but Kurt threw himself at her, caught her and pulled her down to the bed. He pulled the bag from her grip and let it fall over the side of the bed onto the floor. He held her hands in his and moved close to her. "I'll stay only if you insist. I don't want to cause any more trouble for you." She giggled.

"You won't cause any MORE trouble for me, Kurt. I won't let you!" He smiled and kissed her. She eyed the clock. "But I do have to get to sleep. I have to work tomorrow." He let her hands go and she got up.

"You have to work tomorrow?" He asked sitting up on the bed and taking off his shoes. Terri nodded and began to undress.

"Yeah. Sick people just don't understand it's a holiday!" Kurt peeled off his clothes and stood there in his boxers watching her take off her clothes. When she had gotten down to her underwear he smiled. She looked at him smiling and sighed. It was obvious that he enjoyed her little 'show.' "I am so NOT having sex with you again tonight!!" She said indicating the bulge in his boxers. Kurt just grinned.

"You're not?" He asked playfully moving slowly towards her.

"Nope." She said turning and heading into the bathroom to brush her teeth. He followed her and stood in the doorway, one hand above his head leaning on the doorjamb.

"Well, we'll just see about that baby." He said matter-of-fact. She kicked at him until he moved out of the way and then slammed the bathroom door shut. When she finished and opened it up he was standing right there, toothbrush in hand. She laughed and brushed past him. She crawled into bed, checked her alarm and rubbed perfumed lotion all over her arms and hands. Kurt joined her moments later. He lay down in the bed and pulled her down next to him. She turned off the light and they lay there in the darkness. He held her in his arms. "Thank you for this day, Terri." He said quietly.

"Oh, you're welcome. I suppose I should thank you too." He kissed her forehead and pressed himself against her.

"It isn't necessary. I wasn't sure what I would find when I got here but I just knew I had to try." She settled herself against him.

"Mmmm hmmm." She mumbled.

"You mean a lot to me." He said. It was his way of telling her that he loved her. She didn't know it but appreciated it anyway.

"I feel the same." She whispered. He kissed her slowly at first and then more passionately. Before sleep he made love to her again and she didn't resist ...
