Karen dug her toes into the sand, wrapped her arms around her legs that were bent in front of her and tilted her head up to the toasty sun. She squinted her eyes closed and smelled the salt water air. It was so good to finally be away. A real vacation for once. The whole time she and Sam were married they never went on a vacation or a honeymoon for that matter. She was pregnant with Ryan when they got married and renting a large apartment and buying baby necessities was first and foremost on their ‘to do’ list. Honeymoon was no where near the top and after the first baby then came the second followed by the third. She heard the audible click of the camera and opened her eyes to see Josh, clad in navy gauze pants and a silk, button down shirt posing on the beach, his hair blowing softly in the tropical breeze. Noticing that she was watching he smiled at her and winked. She felt tingles that began in her toes and moved their way up her legs where it spread into her belly and her groin. They had arrived in Puerto Vallarta only two days before the photo shoot began but they had two full days to play on the sand, in the sun, and in the water before he was committed to a schedule. But in the two days they were there they had already made love on the beach and drank Margaritas until the sun rose. Karen watched Josh as he slipped on a pair of sunglasses and turned his head into the sun. She could see the reflection of the light that bounced off the mirrored lenses. The wind flapped around his legs wrapping the gauze pants around them. The shirt he wore was buttoned only half way and now, flattened against him, she could see the hair on his chest. That combined with the outline of his legs where the wind pushed the pants against them, Karen felt herself flushing with desire. He walked slowly down the beach as the photographer snapped photos. She lay back on the beach blanket and began to cover herself with lotion, sensually rubbing it on her legs and her belly. Josh noticed and stared. He wished at that moment he was touching her body as sensually as she was. The photographer was loving it. He encouraged Josh to watch her and encouraged Karen to tease him more. It was making for good photography. When he’d reached the end of the roll, the photographer let them have a break. Josh lay down next to Karen on the blanket and pulled her head to his where he kissed her erotically on the mouth, his tongue lingering a little bit longer. She rolled onto her side and cozied up to him. The gauze pants were next to nothing between them, she could feel his erection pressing into her hip.
“Oh baby,” Josh gasped as he pressed himself deeper into her. “Do you know how badly I want to fuck you right here?” He nibbled at her neck and fiddled with the ties on the top of her suit, tempted to pull the strings and set her hounds free. He restrained himself and slid his hands down her back to her hips and slid a fingertip inside the top of the bottom of her suit. Karen slid her hands inside his silk shirt and rubbed a finger over his erect nipple then moved downward.
“Let’s go back to the room.” She panted. She wanted him almost more then he wanted her. He got up quickly and pulled her up. They ran back up the beach to the villa they occupied which wasn’t far from the ocean. The moment they were inside Josh had her on the floor, the suit was off, his pants were off, he moved swiftly inside her and moaned before he began to make love hastily. When they were finished, Josh lay on his back and panted until his breathing returned to normal. Karen did the same.
“What is it about this place that makes me want to fuck you constantly?” Josh asked. Karen laughed.
“I’d say it was those gauze pants. Damn they are mighty fine hugging your body.” Josh snickered and rolled over onto his side.
“What pants? I don’t have any pants on.” He rubbed himself against her and found he was thickening again. Karen rolled onto her side and sighed.
“Oh no, not again …”
“Oh yes …” Josh said and raised his eyebrows at her. She hiked her leg up over his and he entered her once more.
They moved on from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara. Karen watched with interest as the photographer set up the photo shoots so that they appeared to be extemporaneous, not contrived. They sat in a small cantina, sipping margaritas when a Mariachi band happened by. The camera clicked. They walked down the cobblestone streets, the sun setting in the distance turning the doorways black and the sky a blazing orange, the camera clicked. Josh’s silhouette against the orange sky, the camera clicked. When they’d had enough of the city they moved back towards the Caribbean. Karen stood on the beach, the sand warmed the bottom of her foot even through her sandals. She crossed her arms over her chest and sighed heavily. She’d never in her life seen a sight quite like this. The ocean was a combination of blues that if she had to describe them to someone who hadn’t seen it, she wasn’t sure if she could. The smell of the ocean combined with the sweet of the flora and musk of the fauna assaulted her nose. She closed her eyes and breathed it in. The waves of the Caribbean lapped up on the shore and filled her ears with a roar that she’d never before encountered, not even on the beach in L.A. It was so loud she didn’t hear Josh approach from behind and didn’t know he was there until he set his hands on her shoulders. She jumped slightly and turned her head. He kissed her forehead.
“Amazing, isn’t it?” He asked and pulled her backwards until she was settled against his chest and then he wrapped his arms around her. She sighed. There were no words she could find to describe how she felt at that very moment. She just wanted to stand there and take it all in, the sight, the sound, the smell, the touch of Josh. They stood there for some time in silence until she could take it no more and was overwhelmed with emotion and wept. Josh turned her towards him and tilted her face upwards with a finger under her chin. “What is it sweetie?” He asked. She couldn’t speak, she could only shake her head. “Is something wrong? Are the kids okay?” She nodded and wiped at her face with the back of her hand. He kissed her pink, sun warmed cheeks. “Then what is it?” She swallowed hard and finally spoke.
“It’s … there’s nothing wrong, this is just the most perfect thing in the world right now.” He smiled and touched her lips gently with his.
“Yes it is.” He pulled her into his arms and cradled her. “I can’t even tell you how happy I am that you are here with me.” She grabbed hold of his shirt and held him tightly.
“So am I, Josh, so am I.”
Two nights before the end of the trip, Karen and Josh sat alone at a table in the back of a Cozumel cantina sipping Sangria. Karen wore a wild fuchsia flower in her hair tucked behind her ear. She lifted her glass of wine and brought it to her cherry lips and sipped then set the glass back down on the table. As Josh watched her he felt a stirring inside. It surprised him because it wasn’t the familiar sexual feeling he usually got when he stared at her, it was something warm, something comforting. He reached out and grabbed her hand. It was soft, warm, and tanned. The warm Mexican sun and the salty water had transformed her into something magnificent, more exquisite and alluring then she already was and it was at that very moment he knew he wanted her. He not only wanted her in his bed but he wanted her in his life. He wanted to share all these moments with her, the good ones and the bad, the happy ones and the sad. He wanted to take care of her when she was sick and to be there for her when she grew old. He looked into her eyes and thought that maybe for a moment she could tell what he thought. He tried to project this into her mind and coincidentally she blushed and looked down, a coy smile played on her lips.
“What are you thinking?” He asked softly. She peered back up at him, the green of her eyes accentuated by the rose of her cheeks. She shrugged.
“I’m thinking how perfect these last few weeks have been and how sad I’m going to be as we prepare to go back to the real world tomorrow.” He nodded knowingly.
“I know. I wish to heaven there was a way we could stay a while longer.” She sighed, the reality of Ohio flooding back and causing a ache in her heart.
“I miss the kids.” She said. Guilty, he looked away. He hadn’t had one single thought of them for over a week and until she mentioned them he didn’t even remember they existed. He cleared his throat before speaking.
“So do I.” He lied. She looked into his eyes.
“I wish we could come back here someday and bring them. They would love it.” He nodded and took a gulp of his wine. What he wished is that she hadn’t brought them up right at that moment. It was spoiling his feeling and causing him to forget the speech he was preparing in his head.
“Karen,” He began and then took both of her hands in his. “I have to tell you something.” She looked at him nervously, worried about what he was going to say. He noticed and spoke quickly.
“It’s nothing bad.” He said and saw her relax. “In fact, I just wanted to say that this time we’ve had together has been the best of my whole life.” She smiled. “No, I mean it. I’ve never, ever been with anyone like you and if I had my choice I’d never be with anyone else again.” He felt her stiffen a bit but when on anyway. “I have a surprise waiting for you back in LA.” She grinned like a child.
“You do?” She gasped. He smiled back at her.
“Yes.”
“What is it?” She asked, giddy.
“I …” He looked down nervously then licked his lips and glanced back at her. “I bought a house and …” Her eyes widened. “And I want to know if you will come and live with me in it.” She gasped.
“Oh my God, Josh … The kids?”
“Oh, the kids too!” He said quickly. “Musn’t forget the kids!” She smiled again and thought of it. She began to tremble, he felt it in her hands and held them tightly.
“Oh my God.” She said again.
“Is that a yes?” He asked nervously. She pulled her hands from his and covered her mouth.
“I, oh my God!” She giggled. “I would love to!” She said finally and rushed into his arms.
